For the second straight year, Seoul City's annual New Year's Eve bell-tolling ceremony at the Bosingak Belfry has been canceled due to COVID-19.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government said Tuesday that a pre-recorded video of the ceremony will instead be posted online on the city's official YouTube page and other social media platforms.
The move comes as strict social distancing rules are being enforced through early January, including curfews and limits on private social gatherings, to curb a winter surge in new infections.
In 2020, the traditional bell-tolling event was called off for the first time in 67 years amid the coronavirus pandemic.
