≡ Trump Confirms Xi Meeting At G-20 Amid Trade War
U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed he will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping next week at the Group of 20 Osaka Summit.
In a tweet Tuesday, Trump said he had a "very good" telephone conversation with Xi and that trade talks with China would resume prior to their extended meeting.
The White House said in a statement that the two leaders discussed "leveling the playing field" for U.S. farmers, workers, and businesses through a "fair and reciprocal" economic relationship.
The announcement has raised hopes the world's top economies will reach a truce after exchanging steep tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars in exports.■

≡ S. Korea's Top Nuclear Envoy In US For Talks On N. Korea
South Korea's top nuclear negotiator has arrived in the U.S. for talks on North Korea and recent developments on the peninsula.
Upon arrival at Washington Dulles International Airport on Tuesday, Lee Do-hoon, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, said the biggest issue right now on denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula is the early resumption of negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang.
He added that Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the North this week will contribute to the revival of negotiations while U.S. President Donald Trump's trip to Seoul at the end of this month will hopefully add a "synergy effect."
During his four-day visit, Lee is expected to hold talks with his counterpart Stephen Biegun and other U.S. officials to discuss ways to accelerate the resumption of dialogue.■
