  • ≡ Appeals Court To Issue Ruling For S. Gyeongsang Governor Over Opinion-Rigging

An appellate court will issue a ruling for South Gyeongsang Province Governor Kim Kyoung-soo this week, a year after he was found guilty of colluding in an online opinion-rigging scheme. The Seoul High Court will deliver the verdict on Tuesday on the governor who is facing charges of obstruction of business using computer devices. Kim who is a former ruling Democratic Party lawmaker is accused of conspiring in November 2016 with a power blogger nicknamed "Druking" to manipulate online public opinion in favor of the party. The governor is also facing allegations of illegally offering a consul general post in Japan to an associate of Druking. Early last year, Kim was taken into custody immediately after a court sentenced him to two years in prison, finding him guilty of online opinion-rigging operations ahead of the 2017 presidential election, and an additional suspended sentence of 10 months for violating the election law. The governor who has denied all allegations against him, has been standing the appeals trial without detention after he was released on bail in April last year.■ <Photo: Yonhap News> [2020.01.19]

  • ≡ Preventative Fine Dust Reduction Measures In Effect In Capital Region

Preventative fine dust reduction measures are in place in the capital region as of 6 a.m. as air quality is expected to be affected by high levels of ultrafine dust throughout the day. Bad levels of fine dust are in store across the country, especially in the capital region, as well as in Gangwon, Chungcheong and Honam region. Weather authorities say this is due to air pollutants blown from the west in addition to fine dust accumulated in the atmosphere. Meanwhile, expect cloudy skies throughout the day with light rain or snow to fall in most regions.■ <Photo: Yonhap News> [2020.01.19]
