President Joe Biden has said he wants to see at least 70 percent of adult Americans receive their first dose a coronavirus vaccine by the July 4 Independence Day holiday.
With the U.S. currently administering almost one million doses a day, the target is well within reach.
As Biden made the announcement Tuesday, he acknowledged that demand for vaccines was slowing in some areas, and that more efforts would have to be made to convince "doubters" of the need to get their shots.
In an attempt to make it easier, the administration has set up new, simpler ways of getting vaccinated by sending a text message or allowing walk-in centers where no appointment is required.
Biden also said thousands of sites were ready to administer shots to children aged 12-15 once the regulator gave the go ahead.

"The FDA scientists are currently reviewing the data to decide if and when to authorize that age range for vaccinations. The FDA and the FDA alone will make that decision. But today, I want American parents to know that if that announcement comes, we are ready to move immediately."
