Health authorities in South Korea have stressed that their goal of achieving herd immunity is to restore daily life.
Senior Health Ministry official Yoon Tae-ho said Tuesday that the country's aim has never been to eradicate the novel coronavirus, which has multiple variants and continues to evolve.
He clarified the government's goal is to restore a sense of normalcy by achieving herd immunity, much like the flu.
The statement comes after infectious disease expert Oh Myung-don said Monday that people would have to learn to live with COVID-19 as safe herd immunity is unachievable.
