President Moon Jae-in has ordered a thorough investigation into the deadly building collapse in Gwangju.
At least nine people were killed and eight seriously injured on Wednesday when a building undergoing demolition fell onto a street below, crushing a city bus.
The president on Thursday called on officials to determine who was responsible for the collapse after being briefed on the matter by Gwangju Mayor Yong-seop.
Moon also paid his condolences to the victims, their families and citizens of the southwestern city, according to the presidential office.
He urged related ministries to come up with measures to prevent a recurrence.
In response to the tragedy, Infrastructure Minister Noh Hyeong-ouk vowed to carry out safety checks on all demolition sites across the country.
