South Korea and the United States have agreed to convince North Korea to return to the negotiating table.
The two sides saw eye-to-eye on the issue during a meeting between Seoul's Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong and visiting Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman on Thurday.
They decided to continue close consultations on the North, noting dialogue is essential for the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Sherman also met with separately with President Moon Jae-in and relayed to him Washington's hope that Pyongyang will soon respond to offers for dialogue.
Sherman added that she wants to have in-depth talks about North Korea with Chinese officials when she visits China's northeastern city of Tianjin on Sunday.
The deputy secretary of state will be the highest-ranking official in U.S. President Joe Biden's administration to visit China.
