Mark Ramseyer, a Harvard law professor who has been criticized for describing victims of Japan's wartime sex slavery as "willing prostitutes," has stirred up more controversy.

He reportedly sent a threatening email to a Korean scholar over her efforts to redress his apparent distortion of history.

Lee Jinhee, a history professor at Eastern Illinois University, said Ramseyer wrote her an email, accusing her of carrying out "savage attacks" behind his back to damage his career.

Lee told Yonhap News that Ramseyer also claimed defamation and alleged that she was violating "the fundamental principles of honesty."

He then reportedly criticized her for calling for a revision or withdrawal of his paper, titled "Contracting for sex in the Pacific War," warning that he will take counteraction, without giving further details.

Lee and other historians have taken issue with the controversial paper, which was expected to be published in the Cambridge Handbook of Privatization, later this year.
