Residents in the capital region who are recommended by doctors or pharmacists to get tested for COVID-19 must do so within 48 hours.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters said Friday that an administrative order requiring testing for people with symptoms of the coronavirus disease has been issued for Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon.
A similar mandate was implemented in South Jeolla Province on Tuesday due to a surge in local infections.
Violators could face a fine of up to 2 million won, according to officials.
